Thunder vs. Pacers Game 6 Preview: OKC on the Brink, Indy on the Ropes

We’re headed for a massive Game 6 in Indianapolis, and everything is on the line.

The Oklahoma City Thunder hold a 3–2 lead over the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals after a dominant Game 5 showing. With the Larry O’Brien Trophy in sight, the Thunder have the chance to close it out on the road. For the Pacers, it’s do-or-die at home, where they’ll need to summon every ounce of energy to force a decisive Game 7.

Here’s everything to know heading into Thursday night’s showdown.

Thunder Take Command

Oklahoma City sent a strong message in Game 5 with a 120–109 win that wasn’t as close as the final score suggests. Jalen Williams exploded for 40 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his MVP-level postseason with 31 points and 10 assists. The Thunder looked composed, confident, and, most importantly, balanced.

Defensively, they’ve controlled the tempo for much of the series, forcing turnovers and limiting Indiana’s open looks from three. Their ability to crash the passing lanes, switch on the perimeter, and protect the paint has frustrated the Pacers and helped OKC flip defensive stops into instant offense.

Pacers' Big Question: Can Haliburton Go?

Indiana’s biggest concern heading into Game 6 is the health of their floor general, Tyrese Haliburton. After suffering a calf strain in Game 5, Haliburton struggled to move with his usual quickness and finished with just four points on 0-for-6 shooting. He’s officially a game-time decision, and even if he suits up, his mobility will be limited.

That puts even more pressure on Pascal Siakam, who’s been one of the few consistent bright spots for the Pacers this series. He poured in 28 points in Game 5, working tirelessly inside and out. Indiana will need another big night from him, as well as a boost from players like Andrew Nembhard, T.J. McConnell, and Bennedict Mathurin.

If Haliburton is less than 100%, the Pacers’ offense becomes far more predictable—and far easier for OKC to contain.

X-Factors and Matchups to Watch

  • Turnovers: The Thunder have turned Indiana’s mistakes into instant offense all series. If the Pacers can’t take care of the ball, it’ll be another long night.

  • Thunder Bench Impact: Oklahoma City’s depth has been huge. Cason Wallace, Aaron Wiggins, and Alex Caruso have brought energy and timely buckets. Expect their minutes to be critical again.

  • Paint Battle: Myles Turner has to establish interior presence. If OKC controls the glass and keeps him quiet on both ends, Indiana will have trouble generating second-chance points.

  • Game Pace: Indiana thrives in fast-paced chaos. OKC thrives in disciplined execution. Whoever controls the tempo early likely controls the outcome.

Momentum, Pressure, and the Moment

Oklahoma City smells blood. They’ve already won a Finals game in Indianapolis and looked every bit like a team that believes it can win it all now. They’re getting high-level play from their stars and consistent contributions from their role players.

The Pacers, meanwhile, have been resilient all postseason and are tough to beat at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. But this is their toughest test yet. They’ll need nearly flawless execution, energy from their home crowd to rise above the moment if Haliburton is limited.

Final Word

It’s all set: the Thunder can finish the job and cement one of the most impressive turnarounds in recent NBA history. The Pacers are fighting to extend their dream season and bring the series back to OKC for a Game 7.

Tip-off is at 8:30 PM. Expect fireworks.
